Day 76 And it shall be on Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy Place before the Lord, and when he comes out, so that he does not die. (Exodus 28:35 ESV) I thought it was pretty genius that God thought about the priests and entering into the Holy of Holies with the bells and the rope. If the high priests werent consecrated, approaching Gods presence there could mean death. And then what if the priest died? How would they know? The bells would stop jingling. And how would they get him out? They would pull the rope. He thought of everything. The great specificity and detail in the priestly garments also set them apart in Israel. It was a high calling to be a Levite. And now all of us are included. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:9, 10 ESV). If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man’s whole body well? Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” (John 7:23, 24 ESV) This reminds me of this passage But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 ESV). The heart of the sabbath was not to do absolutely no work, but to rest and enjoy one day off. You still eat, still put on clothes... Where is the line drawn for what is considered work and not? Its the heart of the matter that dictates what is work and rest. Its also not so much what I do but how I do it in my heart that matters more. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. (Proverbs 4:23, 25, 26 ESV) The heart. Protect it. for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. (Galatians 3:26-29 ESV) The unity of the body in Jesus is a profound and beautiful thing. To be heirs with the Israelites and included in Gods covenant with them is also...an amazing thing. Amazing grace. He will be our God and we will be His people. I love being claimed and chosen. I am His and He is mine.
