Day 8: I am thankful for being an alumnae of Penn State. I am the oldest of five children. My dad, a good and faithful Presbyterian, threw Penn State into the mix of all the colleges I was applying to (most were Catholic colleges). My parents always expected us girls to go to college, and my dad felt that I needed to see what was out in the real world (having been somewhat sheltered for the previous 13 years of Catholic education). I remember one of the nuns, with a PSU form in her hand, calling me to her desk and asking me if I *still* wanted her to fill these forms out. I said yes, and the rest is history. But through my attending Penn State, I did indeed broaden my horizons. I met my husband there (blind date! Thank you, Sue Seaman). I earned a degree that allowed me to find a job. It offered me many opportunities to experience sports, academics, politics (yeah, I ran for treasurer one year), and a life outside of studies. It also gave both Frank and me a place to call home. We attend Homecoming every year; stay with my sister; see OLD friends; party and socialize at Phi Kappa Psi; sing the always-familiar songs; and follow the Nittany Lions through thick and thin. Penn State has helped to define me and peoples perception of me. I am honored.
