Day (?) Atlanta...Mrs Wall had the day from hell yesterday thanks Delta Airline (nothing pleasant to be said) but anyhow in Atlanta for two days. Did the tourist things, Coca Cola World, the Center for Civil and Human Rights (very moving) and then Stone Mountain. Stone Mountain is a single granite monolith of 825 feet tall and covering 583 acres. The entire carved surface has 3 Generals carved into it measuring three acres, larger than a football field. The carving of the three men towers 400 feet above the ground, measures 90 by 190 feet, and is recessed 42 feet into the mountain. The deepest point of the carving is at Lees elbow, which is 12 feet to the mountains surface. Impressive, but not to the scale of Mt Rushmore. Atlanta? Hmmm, lots and lots of homeless. The centre of town has some ugly buildings or less than aesthetic. Great to visit to do the three things weve done but pleased to be leaving tomorrow.
