Day Four Given the gravity of yesterday’s news about Robin - TopicsExpress

Day Four Given the gravity of yesterday’s news about Robin Williams and the collective sorrow the world is experiencing, the things I’m grateful for today have a different weight. When I consider the pain and loss his family and friends are coping with, the things I feel grateful for seem selfish yet appropriate. I’m so very grateful for my mental and emotional health. It’s largely the luck of a genetic hand and I don’t take it for granted. Related to this, I am grateful that we live in a society that understands the necessity of grief and vulnerability. That we are collectively feeling sadness and compassion for a person weve never met, yet were touched by, is a beautiful definition of what it means to be human. I’m grateful for my childhood. There were no major assaults on my innocence, no evil, dark thing happened to color my youth anything but happy and adventurous. I was able to run, play, imagine, and learn and even then, while I didnt understand how lucky I was, I did know enough to absorb the joy and make the most of it. My Barbies probably didnt appreciate all the adventures as much as I did but, fortunately, they never let on. I’m so incredibly grateful for simple pleasures. Peaceful mornings with coffee and a croissant while watching the baby quail wander the yard looking for seeds. (if they would JUST LET ME TAKE ONE PICTURE). Scrapbook days where I keep rubbing my shirt on the glitter glue and our memories turn into an immortal art project. Wandering the produce section of the grocery store and impulsively picking whatever color I’m attracted to. And the gelato at Dolce Vita. I mean, that’s an easy one. It could be its own topic. Mmmmm, gelato.
