Day Four of great songs – “I aint marching anymore” by Phil - TopicsExpress

Day Four of great songs – “I aint marching anymore” by Phil Ochs. I know Ive put this song up here before, which led me to think that is really is perfect for this “great song” exercise. This song is simple, to the point, and cathartic. This is the perfect illustration of history painfully repeating itself. Phil states time and time again that he’ll speak for all of us to say that we shouldnt “march anymore.” If we all spoke up and declared that we won’t either – this would be a much better place. I also picked this song because it reminds me of my father, who patiently taught me how to play this song on guitar. I’ll never forget that time and how he gave me the confidence to sing AND play this song in front of my college class for a biographical project. I adore this song for that, mostly. I’ll find myself singing it periodically, remembering my dad, and smiling. And crying a little, too. (For those who really know me, this is not a shocker.) Fitting also, is that today is my parents anniversary as they were married today in 1968. So – as you listen to this song, think of being that instrument of peace and happiness. I know that’s something that my dad always tried to instill in his children. Enjoy.
