Day Twenty Seven! Time Travelling Ulpan 2014 The day - TopicsExpress

Day Twenty Seven! Time Travelling Ulpan 2014 The day began in 2014 as we commenced part two of the Kol Voice Seminar - which began on Day Twenty. This morning we discussed Israeli politics as a democratic state and then moved to our first stop. 1995 Rabin Square. At our first stop in time we learnt about Yitzhak Rabins assassination and the tension leading towards it. This highlighted the difficult task of trying to govern a democratic state with so many delicate foreign and local affairs. 1912 HaBima. We moved along to HaBima - Israels national theatre. HaBima was created in 1912 in Russia and later evolved into a cultural hub for Israelis religious and secular. This was interesting and different to what we have been seeing. 1909 Independence Hall. Our next stop was at the most famous and influential building in Tel Aviv. At what used to be the home of Mayor Meir Mizengoff -but has since been converted to Tel Avivs first art museum and currently Independence Hall- we learnt the history of the building and its importance in the creation of the Jewish State. We all found it amazing to be seated where the major Zionist leaders sat when declaring the state of Israel. As we learnt about the hall itself, David Ben Gurions voice filled the room as his audio read the statement of the Jewish State in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State of Israel. 2014 Finally, we had done a complete time circle. We were back in 2014 and went straight onto the bus for our 4 & 1/2 hour drive to Eilat! We had dinner and have an early night tonight- Tomorrow were up early for a sunrise hike!!
