Day Two of My Gratitude Journey ... I have lost a number of wonderful people (including my parents) in my life, too many to name, but I am going to single out several in no particular order…. My Brother Ray.. Whose humor could leave you in stitches. When he got together with Cousins Rob, & Michael we would do nothing but laugh. They were all funny, quick witted and full of tales. I still think about the time Ray & I did our version on audio tape of “The Exorcist”. Ray’s rendition of “the demon” brought such laughter, so much that Alan was brought to tears from so much laughter. I’d whip the tape out every 5 years just to see and hear Alan laugh & cry at the same time. I don’t know what happened to the tape, but if I had it, I’d drive over to Alan’s just to see his reaction. Ray cared so much for his daughters and his family. When ever he came up to NY he made sure he saw everyone he could. A devastating loss…. My Cousin Rob… the funniest person I’ve ever known. Taking after his father, a true embellisher of stories, Rob’s stories are classic. It didn’t matter how many times we heard the story, when we got together we all wanted to hear it again!. And Rob never hesitated. From the cousin favorite of throwing the crab apple over the house, to his hiding at the play ground because he thought he’d be arrested for knocking out an elderly lady with that crab apple, to his stories of fast food drive-through “events” and the burying of my prized Stan Musial baseball glove, Rob would never hesitate to “perform”. A young man, who left us much too early, but left us with great memories. My Sister-in-Law Jessie … a woman who would do ANYTHING for you. She was kind and considerate and was generous enough to take in my niece and nephew when the situation warranted. She did get my mother hooked on Home Shopping, but that’s okay because my mother enjoyed her shopping bonanzas!! Jess, a trooper who fought her illness with her usual toughness…… My Nephew Adam… from the time he was little and fell in love with the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Superman, and King Kong, we knew he would be special. Heck, at 5 years old he even cut his hair so that it would look like “Charlie Brown”. He had a dry sense of humor which kinda snuck up on you, but he loved to laugh at even the goofiest jokes or stories. He adored his family. All of us! He loved being a part of it. He was a smart, brilliant, handsome, talented young man who bore a burden no one should ever have to…. My Grandma Genoeffa…the littlest of Italian ladies who taught some of her grandchildren a little bit of Italian, but somehow spoke and we could understand her! She embraced all of us in her little house dress and laughed a special laugh when she understood a joke or a funny event. She made the best pizza EVER and taught it to my mother who taught it to me. Every bite you take of my pizza has Grandma’s name on it! LOL… She played the tambourine but to what tune? Didn’t matter… it was Grandma. She would dance the tarantella, but to what music? Didn’t matter… it was Grandma. She continues to be in all our hearts and always will be…. I am so grateful to have known the people above… and I know many in my family feel the same way. We have been Blessed….
