#Day to Save Liberia: Ellen Must Go! Mass Peaceful Protest against Bad Governance in Liberia For Immediate Release New York City, New York, December 7, 2014 – Fellow Liberians and friends of Liberia, after nearly 9 years of abuse, neglect and rampant corruption under the leadership of President Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, coupled with the heartless mismanagement of the Ebola virus epidemic in Liberia, we Liberians have finally reached the breaking point! We can no longer wait while President Sirleaf and cronies continue to further destroy our country’s inheritance. Therefore, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf must resign now. The terrible toll of the deadly Ebola Virus in Liberia is just one of the many products of Madam Sirleaf’s neglect for the wellbeing of the Liberian public; poor healthcare system, lack of infrastructure, nepotism, kleptocracy and the lack of respect for the rule of law. Madam Sirleaf has demonstrated time and time again that she does not respect the Liberian constitution and the people of Liberia. Her government has survived over the years by preying on the fears of Liberians and the empathy of the international community towards Liberia. Sadly and unfortunately, the deadly Ebola virus has killed over 2,700 of our fellow Liberians and thousands more are struggling to survive. The Ebola virus has also unambiguously exposed the neglectful, careless attitude and failed leadership of the Sirleaf government in handling crisis of any kind. Thank God Almighty for the international community’s response to our call for help. It is worth noting that the Sirleaf government has enjoyed the good will and well intention of the international community while our people suffer. Therefore, the most effective way to save Liberia and its future is to peacefully ask Madam Sirleaf to resign now. Hence, MOLAC, CLACI, Friends of Ellen Corkrum and Civil Society Groups are calling on all Liberians to come out and support the peaceful protest on Monday, December 8, 2014 for the resignation of Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Enough is enough. Ellen must resign now. Meanwhile, we have received information that Madam Sirleaf’s security forces under the command of her son, Fumba Sirleaf, have planned to insert hit men and hooligans to instigate criminal behaviors such as looting, rampaging and breaking private properties during the protest only to dampen the good image of our peaceful protest. We call on Mr. Sirleaf to desist and return to civility because the Liberian people will not be deterred by threats and intimidation this time. We are resolute and determined to stay on the streets of Monrovia until Madam Sirleaf departs the presidency. Therefore, we are calling on all Liberians, human rights advocates and friends of Liberia to stand in solidarity with the protest against bad governance, rampant corruption and impunity in Liberia. Liberia First! Corruption and Impunity Last! For questions please contact Jacob Massaquoi, CLACI @ (646)-801-0749, Ellen Corkrum @ (612)-807-5545, or Seyon Nyanwleh, MOLAC @ (612)-730-1373
