Day trippin! An emerging green cicada was flooded out of its tunnel early in the morning. Harmless to humans with the looks only a mother could love they are still pretty cool for how they are prehistoric. Hatched from a small branch in a tree, the nymph falls to the ground where in burrows to feed on the roots of the host tree for 17 years with some species. Then in summer after all those years they emerge to climb up and shed their skin where they linger through the night inflating their wings with body fluids then letting dry and harden in summers night air. Sole purpose from then on for the next few days is to find a mate to repeat the cycle. Only the males have a sound box used to attract the ladies.
