Day two: A Daughters Journey: Growing in Grace - 2015: I’ve been working overtime almost every day for months because of changes at work. Downsizing is the new efficiency, but with that – workload increases when you have more desks to take on, and there are limited resources to cover vacationers or when someone gets sick. It has been a bit stressful at work, and yes, I’ve been between recovering from being sick myself and helping to pick up the pieces for the holiday vacation crunch … I’ve been dragging myself out of bed in the mornings because I knew what was ahead of me. But this morning when I woke up, something was wrong. Even though it felt like Monday because of the mid-week holiday break – I was actually looking forward to go to work! I wondered what was wrong with me? Oh the irony. As quick as I took note to the change in me, I knew it had something to do with this new journey I am on. As I was settling in for the night last night and thanking God for a great start to the New Year, one thought knocked at my heart’s door strongly: be attentive to the people around me and make it a point to reach out to at least one person every day and let them know how much I appreciate who they are. I totally got it! How many times do we go through checkout lines without thanking the cashier who always seems to manage a smile even when customers are grumbling or complaining? What about postal workers who bring our mail no matter what the weather is? Garbage men? Teachers? Pastors? What about home-bound or those in nursing homes? The homeless? Our neighbors? Somehow there is a hope-filled expectation that goes before us when we go through the day with the welfare of others on our mind instead of being consumed with our hopeless situation! I knew at that instant God was asking me to make a simple moment of “Grace” happen in the life of someone else just by letting them know they are appreciated! Grace isn’t created in that moment – it is shared… Truthfully, I expected that God would be prompting me further down the line with something like this, but it’s only day two! That alone tells me how much God wants me to know how much it means to Him that I care for others – just as He does us. It’s a priority of His! And He has impressed this deeply in my heart today. And yes – it was a young girl at the checkout who always greets me with a smile who I thanked today… Day three – here I come!
