#Day25 Wem to Church Stretton #Blog Ankle felt better this morning but was stiff after a night not using it. So it was a slow morning setting off from Wem. Better as it warmed up, could still feel it but no where near the same amount of pain. Thought about putting a strap or tubigrip on it, but because of the miles left to go I don’t want to start playing around with it. If I put a support on my ankle it may put pressure or tension on my knee or other muscles which are fine at the moment. Still have the supports if I need them later. Shrewsbury Council kindly let us park the shack in their market square. After masterfully getting the shack and its big van into the square, Mike spent the day explaining what it was doing there and raising awareness. Great place for it to be. Running through Shrewsbury itself was another tough town to navigate. The map calls it the B5191 and all the signs have their own names for different sections of the road. All I can say is it was fantastic to have Tash on the bike cycling ahead to each corner to direct me on. It was a bit spontaneous and once again she was super athletic without all the kit. I still think she just needs some proper trainers. But she got me back to the A49. A49 = DEATH ROAD. On the map looks just like other A roads. Single carriageway, narrow road, lots of blind corners and massive lorries speeding down. Even with my luminous yellow shirt it was not a safe road. So relieved to see the camper up ahead for the lunch stop. Normally I’m ok with busy roads but this didn’t have a verge so you couldn’t just stop on the edge and the blind corners meant I was forever crossing the road. It was quite scary for a couple of miles. After soup and a chat with Tash and Alan about who would raise the most/get the most publicity through their death on the A49 we all resolved to get me off it. With the help of the AA route map, google and six eyes now experienced at staring at maps we found a route. I was so relieved to go on a quiet road that I didn’t want to stop! Kept going to church stretton. Tash is heading back to Bristol tonight (I’m sure we’ll see her when we pass through on Tuesday) and Alice has come to join us. She has been working at the Luton office – so great to meet the one behind so much of the logistics, plans and emails… lets see if she can map read! Then headed to the night’s stop – a wonderful church in Shrewsbury – The Church of the Holy Spirit. Met by the wonderful Mark with a cold bath, ice for the foot and a lovely lasagne! Great fellowship with great people. Then headed next door to the church for a home group meeting. About 15 people showed up, asked questions about the challenge and the charity, with much encouragement and prayer. Met some wonderful people with close links to Africa which was so encouraging. After discussing the routes with Mark over a lovely cup of tea, we got some great advice. Hopefully a good next few days. Now off to the shack for a good night sleep, ready for another day tomorrow!
