Daytrip to Dalton, per chance a weekend stay. We pack our bags, fuel the car, head south today. Billboard signs advise of food, hotels, gas and drink. Highway weaves past towns, bridges, trees. More signs: See Ruby Falls. Ill pass...again...I think. Weigh station beckons heavier loads. Truckers line and wait. I speed past, gawk and stare wondering if theyll be late. I veer too far. Tires sing! I find my place again. Trees splashed colors regal Ive arrived atop Monteagle. Downhill coast gathers speed we pass runaway-ramps. Glad am I we have no need! Cars gather behind I know I go too slow. I merge. All pass. A lake appears, shimmers, shines Nickajack its name. Wildwood sign passes by. All too soon Chattanooga looms A clickety-clackety road. Down the hill to I-75, past places I once called home. East-coast-time in Dalton, Georgia. Good times!
