De-silting of dams is need of the hour. There is a general - TopicsExpress

De-silting of dams is need of the hour. There is a general perception that a dull, a dumb and a deaf can’t understand depth of a fact and volume of a coming danger unless he is hit on head. They got atomic power when they were hit by India. Now when they have been hit by acute shortage of electricity they have decided to solve this problem. Pakistan is going to face water catastrophe in next few years. Perhaps no person has thought about it so far. Dams from where we get water are losing their storage capacity due to continuous deposit of silt in them, and a day will come when this silt will make zero storage capacity of the dams which lead to shut down of grid stations, tube wells and bore-wells. The rulers, engineers, wise-men and politicians are sleeping. Are they dull, deaf and dumb that they are unable to understand unless they are hit on head? However, I am sure they are not so. Actually, commission mafia (Haram Khor) is the biggest hurdle and hindrance in building water storages or whatsoever. They are not ready to do so if they are not paid first. The passion of patriotism has almost diminished in Pakistan. Water maintains its level. Before construction of dams by General Ayub, the public had to bring the water from far flung areas and they had no option except to drink dirty water. However, after construction of these dams, water level of earth came above and the public were able to get water though bore wells and tube wells as well as cheap electricity. Now, please imagine what will happen, if the dams will be dried which will lead to dryness of tube wells and bore wells. This situation will go so worse that it will make the public to flee such as they will flee on the day of resurrection and on that day speaking of broken English Mixture (Urdush) (two number) will not save you. Could you imagine what will happen if Pakistan became Somalia due to famine and the poor started dying due to thirst and hunger. You know in case of famine, Sindh and Balochistan will be hit first. Therefore, it is my early warning rather, appeal to the concerned quarters to take the subject matter in their consideration before it is too late. This problem can be solved by de-silting of the dams now. Faiz Muhammad, Faiz Translation Center, Office No. 1, Basement, below Telenor, near Askari Bank, Aabpara Market, Islamabad.
