Deadly gas explosion leads to calls for homeowners association Author: Trish Hartman, Reporter, THartman@wfmz Residents of a mobile home park in Northampton County are ready to voice their concerns at a meeting this weekend, after a gas explosion killed one of their neighbors. Folks at Hickory Hills Mobile Home Park in Moore Township will discuss the possibility of a homeowners association on Sunday. Its been almost a month since a gas explosion killed one of their neighbors and people at Hickory Hills Mobile Home Park in Moore Township say they are still nervous and angry. Hickory Hills resident Michael Kerak said, I didnt even know I had to get my own propane, my neighbor told me I had to get my own propane. I still didnt get a letter from Hickory Hills saying how Im getting propane. Now residents say they are thinking about starting their own Homeowners Association in response to what they call a poor job and poor communication by the management at Hickory Hills. The deadly explosion happened on Feb. 14, killing William Neith, Sr., 65. Officials ruled the death an accident, and the explosion was sparked by a propane leak. The Department of Labor and Industry is investigating the propertys gas tank, and the state Public Utilities Commission is investigating the pipelines, and overall safety of the propane delivery system. So, will a homeowners association help? Residents say theyre not sure. But neighbors say theyre going to the meeting to make sure their voices are heard. I think its a good idea that people know whats going on, but I dont know how everythings working out, said resident Charles Miller. What would happen, maybe, if everyone bands together maybe legally we can get something done. I dont see how a homeowners association is going to change anything here because they dictate what goes on here anyway, said resident Aaron Alcott. After yet another gas explosion in a neighborhood in Ewing, New Jersey, this week, residents in Moore Township are even more on edge. I saw it on the TV and stuff and I was like, Wow. I know what its like, said Miller. The meeting to discuss the possible formation of a homeowners association is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Klecknersville Ranger Volunteer Fire Department. 69 News reached out to the management at Hickory Hills Mobile Home Park, but the calls were not returned.
