Dealing with a bit of the old Calvinist predicament of sharing my beliefs with non-Calvinists, particularly family members. Whenever I try to explain my Calvinist beliefs to people they always fall back on Arminian assumptions We have this free will... etc. and when I try to argue back with scripture I get told that Im arrogant to think I understand God, and the whole his ways are higher than our ways thing, to which I usually argue God has revealed himself in scripture, etc. anyways usually I end up getting frustrated and then I do get angry and become arrogant. Im trying to avoid this, but its hard. Ive tried to get people to watch videos with me, or to really dig in, but I mostly seem to get the reaction that Im some bible thumping nut and normal people dont care that much about these things. People get mad when they think Im trying to convert them, but Ill be honest I am trying to convert people, I believe Calvinism teaches the truth about God and I want people and that includes fellow Christians to understand this truth (which again seems arrogant, oh so you think you know the truth? etc. a whole vicious cycle). How should I go about this, if I cannot get anybody to really seriously consider my position on the doctrines of grace, or willing to watch any teaching etc. should I just back off completely? I get kind of irritated just sitting around listening to things I dont believe are true but then when I speak up people get offended and I come off arrogant. Should I see this as prideful in myself and put a stop to it, or ought I to try and continue to defend and promote what I believe is true?
