Dear Activists, On Wednesday, 20 November, activists are needed to join PETA in Sydney to help raise awareness of the horrors of live export. Every year, Australia exports millions of animals to countries that have few or no laws to protect them. Investigations have shown that sheep and cattle who survive the gruelling ocean voyage from Australia are often dragged by their ears and legs onto trucks, kicked in the face and hauled to backyard abattoirs, where their throats are cut while they are still conscious. These practices would be illegal if they were carried out in Australia. PETA is holding an educational event to raise awareness of the horrors faced by animals used in live export. The event will feature a large number of cuddly sheep toys crammed into a small row boat. The boat will be in place throughout the day, and a PETA representative will be present at all times. We are looking for activists willing to help by handing out leaflets to passers-by. We would appreciate any amount of time you would be able to give. Details for the event are as follows: What: Leafleting at live-export event Where: At the intersection of Pitt Street and Martin Place, Sydney When: Wednesday, 20 November, 9 am–5 pm If you are able to assist, please e-mail me at [email protected] to schedule a time. Thanks so much for everything that you do for animals! Sincerely, Claire Fryer Campaign Coordinator PETA Australia
