Dear Admins and Contributors of BTD, Thank you for this forum. Until I was recommended to this group I vented my positions through the newsfeeds on Facebook and other internet outlets. It is a cruel and shallow world sometimes, and sometimes I was no better than those who would be trite and harsh and dismissive. Eventually, I began to hold anger and frustration in abeyance and engaged (at least on my part) in calmer, more rational debates. With BTD I am free to read, comment, and learn without extreme partisanship and hate befuddling an issue. Going into this brand new year I look forward to continuing to participate in the generally civil, sometimes heated (face it, were all passionate or we wouldnt be here!) conversations about people, places, things, and ideas. I will try to remember, in 2015 and beyond, that during the various tides of American governance there have always been the same eddies swirling around days of milk and honey as well as times of gruel and bread crusts. I will keep in mind that the swell of social unrest and tragedy also carries the crest of good deeds, good people, and good outcomes. I will swim against the current when I see an issue that has been picked to the bone, regressed, digressed, continually redressed, and progress seems an island growing smaller and smaller on the horizon. I will be wary of the undertow. I will not be submerged into mob mentality that detracts from reason and skims perilously into violence. I will rise from the often murky waters onto land and engage in the Sisyphean task of moving the boulder up the hill to where, hopefully, I will be met by Occams Razor before the task becomes fruitless. And there I can decide which is the simplest path to the tree of knowledge. And, of course, I am always right. Happy New Year, BTDers!
