Dear All As you know, that large parts of Uttarakhand were hit by flash floods recently, in which thousands of people lost their lives and many villages were cut off by the rivers in rampaging mood. As folks, whose lives are dependent on the hills of Uttarakhand, we took a conscious decision to play our role in the relief and rehabilitation. Hence, our team went into Kedarnath valley and lent our hands/ support and time to the affected and needy people. Through this email, I am sharing videos of the wire bridge, that our team built at phata, early this month. This bridge is already operational and is being used by the villagers to ferry human beings and material across the river. This effort took us close to 9 hours and video will show how difficult it was to pull ropes and wires across the rampaging Mandakini. The wire alone was 200 meters long and weighed 300 kgs and was procured without Government help and was disptached from Delhi to Guptakashi. The most satisfying thing is that this bridge has managed to connect 6000 villagers of 11 villages to the nearest road head and that too when government refused help to these poor villagers. We thought of doing this only after failing to elicit any help from the administration. Logic was simple that R&R template for hills has to be different than one applied in plains. We have now moved into 2nd round of our R&R work and are going to adopt 5-7 villages, helping kids with their education, improving the village infra and to work towards providing livelihoods to the affected villages, nearer to their homes.
