Dear Brigade Officers & CYM Youth Leaders Invitation - Dragon Boat Regatta @ the V&A Waterfront – Saturday 28 March 2015 I greet you in the wonderful, all-conquering, soul-saving name of Jesus, the names above all names, and wish you and your company/youth a blessed and prosperous 2015. The Brigade Company of Eersterivier is coordinating a fun-filled teambuilding event in the form of a DRAGONBOAT REGATTA, under the auspices of and facilitated by the Western Cape Dragonboat Association (WCDBA) on Saturday 28 March 2015 at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Eersterivier Brigade is hereby inviting 10 Brigade Company Teams and 10 CYM /Church Youth Group teams to enter the regatta and experience the exhilaration, adrenaline, fun, teambuilding and excitement of Dragon Boat Racing. Guidelines/Criteria: 1. Teams (no individual entries) consisting of 21 members can enter, with an Official of the WCDBA forming the 22nd member of the team and steering the Dragon Boat; 2. Each team must consist of 10 female rowers and 10 male rowers with 1 person (male or female) performing the “drummer” duty (see front of boat) in signaling the pace to the rowers on a biggish “bassdrum”; 3. Due to the Waterfront’s safety regulations, unfortunately no persons under 11/12 years of age can participate; 4. No experience required, WCDBA facilitators will train all teams at the start of the event and allow a few practice runs before the boat racing starts; 5. The entry fee is R85 per person which just about covers the WCDBA event and facilitation fees, the hiring of boats, hiring of safety equipment/vests, the availability of the V&A Waterfront Boating Facility for the day and the availability of 2 “safe boats” with trained lifesavers as per Safety Regulations. The WCDBA might consider a slight discount for groups travelling from areas outside the Cape Metropolitan Area; Refreshments/meals and transport to/from venue are expressly excluded. 6. The event will start at 09h30 and should conclude by 15h00. 7. The program in summary entails (a) training and practice runs, (b) group stage races, (c) quarter final races, (d) semi-final races, (e) the two top performing teams contesting the final and (f) the award ceremony (commendations, medals and trophies). 8. Each participating team (a) must have a “WARCRY” of minimum 10 seconds, maximum 20 seconds (b) will be rewarded for dress (where fun and funky scores the points), (c) must have a team name (where boring loses you points) and (d) must have a team banner/poster/flag where creativity will be rewarded. Let’s stop doing the same old things over and over again, ENTER your team and SHARE in the EXCITEMENT! First come, first served. Deposits before 28 February 2015 secure Team bookings. Detail can be obtained from Abigail Taylor or Deon Franks at Eersterivier Brigade, via the numbers provided, via email, WHATSAPP or Facebook. Kind regards. Deon Franks (On behalf of Eersterivier Brigade Officers)
