Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Facebook is a very useful tool - TopicsExpress

Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Facebook is a very useful tool for both the dissemination and acquisition of information and knowledge at a phenomenal speed. It also has a very wide reach and there is always a ready audience. However, there are numerous information today which are available on Facebook that are neither beneficial nor accurate in its contents. So you will have to exercise discretion in sieving out the ‘good information’ from the ‘corrupted information.’ Whenever you are in doubt about the authenticity of any of its contents, it is best that you double check or verify these contents with the various sources such as with your Qur’an and Hadith. Many of these quotations ‘supposedly’ drawn from the Qur’an and Hadith were taken wholesale by people acting like ‘pigeons’. They just take these materials and just go about ‘bombarding’ these Picture Quotes or shared materials from other Websites or Pages and dump them wholesale onto various Islamic Groupings. Most of these materials do not stipulate clearly their sources from which these materials are obtained. Some of these materials are also made up of simplified or shortened versions, so much so that the entire meaning of some of these materials do not accurately represent the actual Qur’an and Hadith verses any more. Always be on the lookout for those materials which gives you reliable information and where detail information of its sources and references are given for you to refer back to for further authentication. The Prophet (Saw) had told us that we should all seek ‘Beneficial Knowledge’ from Allah (Swt) as can been seen in this Hadith: Sunan Ibn Majah » The Chapters of Supplication It was narrated from Jabir that: the Messenger of Allah said: Ask Allah for beneficial knowledge and seek refuge with Allah from knowledge that is of no benefit. (Hasan) [ Sunan Ibn Majah 3843, Book 34, Hadith 17 ] The Prophet (Saw) also said that whosoever goes out seeking knowledge, then he is in Allah’s cause until he returns. This can be seen from this Hadith below: Jami `at-Tirmidhi » Chapters on Knowledge Narrated Anas bin Malik: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever goes out seeking knowledge, then he is in Allahs cause until he returns. [ Grade : Da’if (Darussalam) ] [ Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 2647, Book 41, Hadith 3 ] The Prophet (Saw) also told us that we should not seek knowledge in order to argue and show off in front of the Scholars or to argue with the foolish. We see an abundance of this kind of Argumentative People on Facebook. People who loved to argue and wished to show off their knowledge. Then there are also those who cannot differentiate between what are Facts and what are Opinions. They mingle the two together and they talked with such Arrogance, even to the extent of calling and labeling other Muslims as ‘Kafir’ or ‘Disbelievers.’ They are also very carefree with the use of such words like “I AM SURE Allah will forgive us for such and such a sin….., etc..” as if they had been given the De Facto right by Allah (Swt) to speak on His behalf. We have to remember that we are in no position to talk on behalf of Allah (Swt). Even our Prophet (Saw), who is the Best of Creations and had been forgiven of all sins by Allah (Swt) also DO NOT dare to venture with such assertions like these Argumentative People do on Facebook. Therefore, if we ever comes into contact with these kind of people on Facebook, it is best that we disengaged and do not get yourself suck into such futile and non beneficial arguments which very often turns personal and are very sinful. There are also the “Islam Haters” on Facebook. These are people who prowls and joins the various Facebook Muslim Groupings (Often using fake personas). They then deliberately post offensive or incendiary remarks about Islam and even calls Allah (Swt) ‘nasty’ names. They deliberately post provocative statements with the intention of drawing you into an argument with them in order for them to start berating about their Savior and Salvation.. Our Prophet (Saw) also told us NOT to impart knowledge to those people who do not deserve it. The Prophet (Saw) said it is like putting a necklace of jewels, pearls and gold around the neck of swines in this particular Hadith: Sunan Ibn Majah » The Book of the Sunnah It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim, and he who imparts knowledge to those who do not deserve it, is like one who puts a necklace of jewels, pearls and gold around the neck of swines. (Daif) [ Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith 224 ] So my dear Brothers and Sisters, the use of Facebook is a technological marvel and a useful tool in this modern age for the dissemination and acquisition of knowledge, including Islamic Knowledge. However, we will have to be extra cautious in our approach and not to let your emotion get the better of us in the process. Furthermore, because of the Aonymity of the participants in Facebook, we do not really know who is on the other end of the line dishing out these information. There are many people who used False Personas and Fake Identities when they created their Facebook Accounts. Sometimes, they even fake their Gender just to gain the trust of that particular Gender in order to get them to open up and voluntarily give them excess to their Personal Information. May Allah (Swt) Guide and Grant Us Beneficial Knowledge. Ameen
