Dear Buckeye Fan: I want to thank the many of you that have sent nice notes after the initial wave of trash. Its good to have friends. Many folks have asked why on earth I am an Alabama fan. Lots of folks accuse me of being a front runner. So, here you go.....as a kid I was very close to my Grandmother. Grandma lived on the same property as we did so I saw her daily. She was a huge sports fan, particularly baseball and football. She was born in the little town of Oneonta, Alabama. Thats just outside of Birmingham and not far from Tuscaloosa. She told me growing up my first words were Bart Starr (he played for Bama). That may be an exaggeration but suffice it to say Grandma was a big Tide fan. Most years Christmas gift for her somehow revolved around Bama. In later years she developed Alzheimers which hit her very hard. One day I was visiting her in the hospital and in conversation with someone I said the word Alabama. Even at a time in her life where she could not hold a conversation with anyone, when she heard me say that she sat bolt upright, looked at me and said ALABAMA. Some things you never forget I guess! When we buried her, there was a Bama sweatshirt on the pillow next to her head. So, there you have it, not a front runner or Johnny come lately, its been there since I was a little guy! Given all the nice notes Ive gotten the last week or so Ill post over the next few days some scouting info on Bama for when you watch the big game to help know who and what to look for and post some history of the Buckeyes versus the Tide.
