Dear CES Parents ; Ive received an email from one of my friends and as i knew from her it has been sent to Mr Smith ....As they have lots of concerns about the school academic curriculum i tried to download the email to you but no use unfortunately so ill copy it to all of you and lets discuss it together and please let me know your opinion and your suggestions >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dear Sir, We are a group of parents who are concerned about the quality of education at CES. As a matter of fact we enrolled our children in CES because we believe that this is the best quality of education we can get to our kids & we still see that CES is one of the best schools in Cairo. The aim of this letter is to channel our concerns on some points that we see it can easily be rectified and CES is capable to reach the education standards we expect it to have. Kindly find summary of the points that need to be taken into consideration: 1) French Language • To learn any language first thing is to know how to pronounce the language alphabetic in the right way this is not done in CES. • IB system is based on understanding & learning while playing that must be applied in all the subjects. It will be much easier to learn a new language by learning songs having games & reading nice stories and characters any French library will have a kids learning kit to facilitate the issue. The fact is that the kids are learning by heart they do not understand anything in French and just copy whats written & memorizing it. Also one class per week is certainly not enough. • It looks like there is no proper continuity in the French language. Each year the French starts at a very low level and the progress from year to year is very week. My son has been in school since year 3, he is now in year 8 and the French he gained is very little. I suggested that children should be allowed to get the French DELF certificate presented by the “Centre Cultural in Cairo” as many other schools do. 2) Arabic Language • The very same point of teaching aid & kit that is not available in the Arabic lessons however if you search a little you will find that there are many kits to help the children learn instead of memorizing. • Ask the kids about the Arabic teacher and the answer will be Arabic teacher is not like the English they shout! Our kids stopped loving the Arabic language which is their language, Social studies because again very wrong way of teaching them. Even if it is the ministry curriculum yet the way of teaching makes a whole of a difference. • Arabic and Social studies teachers miss the proper skills in disciplining the class; much of the class time is wasted in trying to get the children under control in some classes. • Our children are much weaker in Arabic than children in other international schools. A lot of effort is needed from the parents to help with Arabic and Social studies. More time and care needs to be given to the children in teaching Arabic in order to improve their level. 3) Math & Science • The basic of math is the multiplication yet the kids are not learning the multiplication table and this is one of the few things to memorize by heart. More multiplication practice needs to be given to children at home especially for those who have harder time remembering their time tables. • There are no much science experiments done in the school to help children love the subject & understand by experimenting. 4) Activities • Compared to other schools with the same level the activities in CES are not enough & not dealt with the required discipline. • The school needs to have a well-established band with all possible instruments. The school should take the responsibility of teaching the instruments as well as the singing for all kids that show talent not only using those already trained in the band. • The school easily cancelled the previous BSME as well as this one after several of the kids were so enthusiastic to join. It looked to us that the school didn’t want to do the effort and enthusiastic and responsive children paid the price. The school should have pushed more kids to join and should have raised the awareness and enthusiasm among children and their parents to join the event. • We need to know more about our children progress and week points in specific to work on them. Children can easily go from one year to the other with their weaknesses unnoticed and thus getting even weaker. In my opinion that’s because the reports are generalized and we don’t see the tests papers on time on regular bases to tackle specific problems as they arise. On the other hand the ACER & ISA exams are good to have and we would like more information about them & if the kids will be certified at the end or it s an exam to double check the standards. We would like to see the results of those exams as early as possible to take the required action on time. The previous exam results were returned to us when it was too late to take any action. We need to be aware of the specifics of the children’s weaknesses and strength. We want the school to require excellence from the children and not give in to their self-motivation limits. We want to see them stretched to the maximum that they can afford. We would like to have a meeting discussing these points & to set our expectations regarding the quality of education as we did choose CES because its not the traditional way of teaching. Thank you in advance for your understanding & looking forward to meeting you & solving this issue. Regards
