Dear CathSoc We have all seen the devastation in the Philippines and would no doubt like to do something to help. If youre not sure how you can help, or dont want to donate to big charities, then please consider making a donation to our second collection this Sunday. The money collected will be sent directly to the Verbum Dei community over there, and Fr James and Br Steve, who are colleagues to Sr Catherine/Vale/Lil and met some of the CathSoccers who went there on a mission trip a few years ago, will make sure it is put to good use helping real Filipinos in need - no big charities, no fundraising cuts - every penny going directly to help people who have lost everything and need to rebuild their lives. Please do think about digging deep and making a donation on Sunday, either in cash to the plate when it comes round after Communion, or doing an online transfer. Send a message to the page if you would like details of where to send this. Every penny will go straight to Verbum Dei in the Philippines on Monday. Also, on Sunday 24th November, Bishop Philip will be back in Southampton to say Mass in the Guildhall, to celebrate the end of the Year of Faith. Mass will be at 12noon in the Guildhall, followed by activities all day until 6pm. Entry is by ticket only (to manage capacity) for a £5 suggested donation. CathSoc have 50 tickets, so anyone who would like to go will be able to get a ticket, they will be available after Mass on Sunday, or from Sr Catherine in the Chaplaincy on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday next week. The local parishes will be cancelling Masses to allow congregations and priests to attend the day, however we WILL be having a simple Mass on campus (in the Nightingale building) that evening, in case anyone is unable to make it to the Guildhall (although if you can make it, the Guildhall will be a great experience and we recommend going!) Finally, the core committee will be in London this Sunday for the Annual CaSSU Conference, so we wont be at Mass - the arrangements are all in hand, but if anyone would be able to go to Nightingale at 5.45 to move some chairs and set up for Mass, that would be very much appreciated. Have a fantastic weekend CathSoc - all the best
