Dear Children: Emily wrote and asked where I was when JFK was shot. It seems like it was not long after noon meal at the E&H dining hall-when JFK was shot. I was in my dorm room at Martha Washington dorm. Someone ran down the hall screaming the news. I was on the top floor. We ran down the hall to our dorm mothers room, which was in the center of the building. We crowded and I remember there must have been 4 or 5 dozen girls piled everywhere. You could barely see the small TV she had for all the people. We had no TVs in our room. Afternoon classes had started and your dad was in a class on the hill, in Wiley building, as that was then the only class building for all classes except science. That evening after supper in the dining hall (only one place to eat and one choice!), it seems like everyone on campus went to the chapel and there was some kind of assembly/service. This was the first of the series of assassinations we experienced in our twenties. Love, Mom
