Dear Christian bros and sisses.....Facebook is a veritable cornucopia of opinions and ideas . None more prevalent than those political . Most of the posts I see have one side bashing the other....or someone giving their views on why so and so is a crook . I have also seen several posts of videos showing law enforcement seemingly overstepping their bounds.....in essence becoming thugs to be feared rather than respected.We as Christians should not be surprised or overwhelmed by such things . I believe most of us realize that the political system in this country is broken . We all know of instances where we find our judicial system broken . We also know of those sworn to protect us using their authority to commit illegal acts and even harm folks . Can we say all our leaders and authority figures are dishonest ? I dont think we can or should make such assumptions . But by the same token we must realize that our Bible told us these things would be . Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. While I do not believe that all those in authority over us are evil......God tells us that our warfare .....our battle is so often against those very powers . Not the people themselves....but the offices they represent . There is much truth in the saying ...Power corrupts . Once again human nature and our propensity to sin causes even the best folks to allow power and authority to change them.......maybe that is why God warned us about how we should honor them and even pray for them... 2 Peter 2: 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Humans are frail beings. We are so easily swayed from doing what is right to doing what either feels good or benefits us and only us . A political office or place of authority does not strengthen ones ability to be noble and just.....only God can do this......see you in church today.
