Dear Church Family, We cant all be there when disaster strikes. But this Sunday, well do our part equipping others to go. Im excited that Lebanon UMC will step up this Sunday to join thousands of others around the world by participating in a Special Sunday of the United Methodist Church for the very first time. We will stand united to help fund the critical disaster relief efforts of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). For over 70 years, UMCOR has provided disaster relief - often long after others have left the scene. Theyve aided refugees and confronted the crippling challenges of world hunger and poverty. But they simply cannot do it without us. Unlike other benevolent efforts, UMCOR does not receive any funds from the regular UMC budget. Our generous gifts help cover UMCORs administrative costs so UMCOR can continue to guarantee that 100% of all other donations are used for specific relief projects - like rebuilding after the earthquake in Haiti, Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, or Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. One Great Hour of Sharing allows UMCOR and the United Methodist Church to respond immediately when disaster strikes. Think of them as our Go Team, so that the Church can be there when help is needed. Friends, our support is critical. Lets be there for those in need.
