Dear Civic Leader, As you may have heard, there will be a public hearing before the Pennsylvania State Senate Judiciary Committee to discuss my Anti-SLAPP Legislation (SB 1090). I am writing to formally invite you and the members of your organization to the event which will be Thursday April 24th at 9:30am at the Philadelphia Bar Association at 1101 Market St. As an active member in your community, I am sure you are no stranger to the threat posed by SLAPPs. These lawsuits are designed to silence voices, such as yours, from speaking out on public issues that directly affect neighborhoods. My legislation aims to help individuals and organizations who have been sued to dismiss these suits and recoup attorneys fees. If you would like to submit written testimony, please contact George Farrell in my office at (215) 952-3121 or gfarrell@pasenate. Please also let us know if you are interested in testifying. Please note that we are still finalizing the agenda for the day and, regrettably, may not have time to accommodate all those who are interested in testifying in person. however, all written testimony will be accepted by the committee and acknowledged at the hearing. Whether you can testify or not, I would like to show my colleagues on the Judiciary Committee that my constituents care about this issue. Your presence at the hearing will do that. I have attached an electronic version so that you can more easily distribute this notice to your membership. This legislation is a step to ensure that our neighborhoods have a right to speak out about what goes on within their boundaries. Your interest and participation is an important and valued part of the process. Sincerely, Senator Farnese
