Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to invite you to the 8th International Symposium on Phlebotomine Sandflies (ISOPS VIII) that will be held in Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, from 22-25thSeptember 2014, close to one of the Seven Natural World Wonders: the Iguazú Waterfalls. The first ISOPS took place in Rome in 1991 after the300thAnniversary of the First-known Illustration of a Phlebotomine Sand Fly by Filippo Bonanni, due to the impulse of Dr. Robert Killick-Kendrick and Dr. Michele Maroli. After this former event, ISOPS alternated between the Old and the New World in Venezuela, France, Brazil, Tunisia, Peru, and Turkey. Now we must preserve the heritage but also face the new challenges of the 21stCentury. We need to define the current priorities attending the biological, epidemiological and cultural diverse scenarios; to promote synergic networks encouraging the younger investigators; and to try to reduce sand fly-borne diseases impact in a changing world. The main topics to discuss in ISOPS VIII will include sand fly control, taxonomy, physiology, colonization, ecology, genome and genetics; vector competence-infections;Leishmania-sand fly interactions; and epidemiology of sand fly-borne diseases. The website of the Symposium will soon be ready with further details. Please share this information with any interested colleagues and students. To allow us to inform you and keep an updated mailing list, please fill in the form at the end of this message. We look forward to your joining us in ISOPS VIII within the spectacular landscape of Iguazú Waterfalls.
