Dear Elephant Guardians and all the Wildlife Conservation Groups - TopicsExpress

Dear Elephant Guardians and all the Wildlife Conservation Groups Working so Hard to Stop the Poaching of Elephants and Rhinos around the World, I have a complete love for our elephants throughout the world. Saving the elephants from further harm is a high priority, and I often participate, the only way I know how, by donating to the Elephant guardian organizations, like DSWT and Lewa Downs and quite a few others, and spreading the word about the continuing slaughter of an amazing and irreplaceable species through social websites whenever I see a news story or posts. Like all of you, I am deeply heartbroken whenever I hear stories like the genocide of more than 300 elephants in Zimbabwe. For me, all it takes is one elephant death to get angry. I often think, what can I do? I have support organizations that are struggling with this battle to save our friends on a regular basis, and the problem is worsening. I think maybe I should boycott Asian nations, but ...does boycotting really work when so many items sold here in the U.S. are made from Asian nations and there are no U.S. or E.U. items to substitute them (e.g. clothing, electronics)? I care deeply about the elephants, but I do wonder if the attached article does not have some legitimacy to it? Is the demand for the ivory being artificially driven up by the bans on Ivory? Decrease supply, increase in demand results in the increase of the amount of money being paid to these bandits, but these criminals are also destitute people who need the money to feed and shelter their families. All I am asking is banning helping, Are we on the right track, and How can someone like myself, sitting in an office 6,000 miles away help these animals? My instinct is to fly to Africa and buy a M-16 and go after these guys...but the demand needs to stop. How do we get to the root of the problem...the DEMAND for IVORY?
