Dear Esurance Today, I was informed that my car insurance rate would go from the $100 a month Ive been paying since I bought it new in 2010 to $1,670 per month or $20,000 a year! You read the correctly, folks. Why? Never mind that I just paid the car off and own it outright now or that it has 108,000 miles on it or even that I never filed a claim, had a ticket or accident the entire time I was a customer with them or that I have a great driving record and Im almost 47 years old. They tell me its because of millage. Where did that millage come from mostly? When my mother was dying I drove to Nevada a lot and now that my father is seriously ill Ive driven there a lot, too. This made no difference to the agent I spoke with on the phone and she could not recommend a different policy or find a way to help me. She transferred me to someone else to answer my questions but this agent informed me that she was not a licensed agent in the state of California and her best option for me was to LIE about the millage. So lets review, I get penalized for being honest, a reliable customer who never filed a claim for five years and when I complain on Twitter about this I get followed by Esurancecares. HA HA HA. You know, if doing the right thing costs $20,000 a year to insure a 5 year old car with 108,000 on it, how can anyone afford to ever do the right thing? Im on line now looking for a new company but mostly I just wanted to say that if you are thinking of going with this company DONT!
