Dear FB Colleagues and caring people of this world, The link below is from the November 5th, 2014 event hosted by the Educational Leadership Program at Mills College: youtu.be/XNLKSp1iCmI Please share with interested colleagues, students, and community members. “From Coping to Hoping: Teaching Youth to Thrive through Trauma” Presentation Description: In this presentation, Patrick Camangian, Ph.D. examined interpretive case studies (Stake, 2005) from his work in California schools to illustrate a pedagogical lens for how to adequately teach the sensibilities needed to deal with the traumatic stress of everyday, urban life & create classroom learning conditions that foster radical healing (Ginwright, 2010) & critical hope (Duncan-Andrade, 2009). Presenter Biography: Patrick Camangian, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Teacher Education at the University of San Francisco and has been a HS English teacher since 1999. Camangian honors the tradition of teacher-research, applying critical pedagogies in urban schools. His areas of expertise include: critical pedagogy, critical literacy, culturally empowering education, and socially transformative teacher development. Currently, he is turning to models that are challenging the colonial condition and research in the health sciences to inform his findings on complex traumas and urban education.
