Dear Facebook Friends, I am saddened to tell you that my 14 year old dog Romeo’s journey through life has come to an end. For the past two years he struggled with degenerative myelopathy. We watched him slowly lose the ability to use his back legs and got him a wheel chair from Eddie’s Wheels in Shelbourn Falls, MA. As the disease slowly took over he lost his ability to use his back legs, then his front. His wheel chair was upgraded four times and the last time because he couldn’t lift his head anymore. The other day he decided he wasn’t interested in eating (not normal) and so I decided I couldn’t see it get any worse. Romeo always gave kisses and at some point in the past two months those had stopped as well. Romeo was a traveler and has made several trips to Canada. He went on a road trip with us in April to Florida and even came to my cousin’s wedding in Newport (stayed in the hotel). Jennifer and I spent the past hour watching videos and looking at pictures. Romeo scared away the bad guys by screaming at them when our house was robbed, but not until after they got all Jennifer’s jewelry. At the very end, there was a movie moment. Just before he went to sleep, he got all the energy that he had left and stuck out his tongue to kiss my hand. We will miss him forever. He’s able to walk and run now hanging out by the rainbow bridge waiting for me. We had this talk. I told him that he was going to be excited that he could run about, but that he would probably have to wait a while before he could show me. Although he has left us, I know he is not alone. His brother Gemini was waiting for him on the other side. I will one day stop by there to pick them all up and take them across the bridge myself. Romeo has many pictures posted on the walls of the Corner Pug in West Hartford, CT. I am going to have the toughest time going to that restaurant for a long time. See More
