Dear Facebook friends and Tennessee residents: SB 2493- HB 2450 has shockingly made it out of committee. It comes up for vote today by the state house and senate. This bill states the following: PROHIBITS PUBLIC HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS FROM USING INSTITUTIONAL REVENUE FROM ANY SOURCE TO PAY VISITING OR GUEST SPEAKERS. This prohibition shall not apply to visiting or guest faculty who are employed by a public institution of higher education to conduct classes or lectures as part of a class for which students will receive credit. Please draft letters to Governor Haslam indicating that it is not under the purview of the state to dictate who is an instrument of higher learning. Thank you!!!
