Dear Family, I just want to let you all know how much I - TopicsExpress

Dear Family, I just want to let you all know how much I appreciate the help some of our families experts have helped me get to where I have achieved with our genealogy research and history. Unfortunately that is not the case with my Fathers Mothers side of my tree. When it comes to research I now look for documents and proof of claims. Thanks so much for the tip Margaret Stephens. Your input has saved me much difficulties when it came to the next bit of history on my Dads mothers side. I had to stop what I was doing and have myself a little laugh and just wanted to share with others the little slip ups which can happen if you are not careful. LOL Please read and have a chuckle with me.--------------------I added this to the comments section on my GGG grandfathers profile. ALMOST BUT NOT QUITE: LesterVanHuss added this on 6 Aug 2014 Billy Nellson appears to be in all aspects my 3rd Great Grandfather. However there is a major discrepancy which nullifies all the information in reference to the year of his arrival in the U.S.. The alternate spelling of his name would and does make sense. Wilhm Billy Nellson. This would be possibly if not understandable since many census records do look a little fuzzy or whoever had taken them did not fully comprehend the proper spelling of names. (LOL) However, his date of arrival into the U. S. is way out of line with the document proving that this is the same Wilhm Billy Nellson. ---------- This is the info found on the passengers list who migrated to the United States from Ireland via Norway - New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 Record Immigration & Travel Name: Wilhm Nellson Birth: abt 1854 Origin: Norway Arrival: 21 May 1879 in New York, New York Departure: Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland Destination: United States of America ---------------- Now my query would be how the History of this man can have the identical history of my ancestor? To my knowledge my GG grandmother who should be his daughter and her siblings were born in the U. S. All of them were born prior to 1879. He and his wife were in fact of Irish and Scottish decent and their families did migrate to the U.S., - but prior to his and his wifes births. Another fact I am facing is the belief that some people have a listing for his father being Alfred William Nelson b1894 and d1977 and his Mother Viola Thompson b:1898 and d 1984 listed in their trees. Do you people look at dates at all. LOL How could they be his parents when it is more than obvious they were born after his birth? Quandaries are now upon us. I added this little story so some of us who try diligently to filter through the hints and resources as a little chuckle for your day. Happy genealogy research everyone. One last word of caution. Make sure the parents are born first. This is a perfect example of how you can put the cart before the horse. I hope no one takes offense but takes this opportunity to laugh with me. Remember one point of fact. Facts and resources are vital when we try to build our trees. One little slip can place your entire research at jeopardy. by Lester William Van Huss
