Dear Followers of the Nazareth Europe History Trip I wanted to upload this photo of artwork from the Zonnebeke Chateau trenches museum in Flanders at the completion of our trip, rather than while there, because it symbolises, for me, the learning I had about the experiences of those involved. While I enjoy the learning about history, it cannot be divorced from the experiences of those who lived it. In relation to the Western Front, I was overwhelmed by the futility, the waste and the cost: this work captures it. What made the experience so fulfilling for me was that the students who attended conducted themselves in a way that showed reverence and respect not only for the sites, but also for those involved, both on the Western Front and the Gallipoli Peninsula. Your children are a credit to you and I hope this site showed not only the joy they experienced, but also their maturity: I cant imagine any of them being the same children you sent. Well done on your management of the site Chantel: I believe the site was critical for the experience of all who attended and watched. Congratulations to Grace on her initiative and planning.
