Dear Friends, A study reported on Fox News today , concludes : “Basically everything that people do very frequently can shape their brain structure and function,” for the full report CLICK HERE The report sheds new light on the knowledge is power phrase that President Bush was fond of saying. Turns out that not all knowledge is empowering , in fact theres allot of knowledge out there that weakens us , diminishes us , to the extent that it effects the very size and functionality of the brain. Of note is, that it is morally questionable exposure and knowledge that has this perceptible physiological effect on the brain. The opening words of this weeks Torah portion are Naso Es Rosh - lift or raise your head. It can be understood like this: G-d gave you a head/brain. You can either downsize it or you can elevate it. A good question to ask ourselves before choosing a book to read, a show to watch, a site to visit: is this going to raise me to a higher level or take me down a notch. Is this book, show, site, going to refine me on coarsen me? Will it bring me closer to G-d or farther away? This is a particularly relevant question to ask, if the book, show or site is going to be the last activity of the day before going to sleep. How do I want my day to end ? And more importantly, what kind of send off do I want to give my soul before it goes off to heaven for the night to re-boot? Next week we celebrate Shavous - the giving of the Torah at Mt Sinai . Theres no mystery as to which book and what knowledge elevates and brings us closer to G-d. It is of course the Torah. Shavuous is the time recommit to regular Torah study. If you want to expand, bolster and elevate your brain structure and function, well then the Torah is a no brainer or better put a know brainer Wishing you and all of Israel a Good Shabbos and A Happy Shavuous - receiving the Torah joyfully and internally.
