Dear Friends, Although happy about the nation somewhat coming together against the militants, it was sad to see a constitutional amendment for military courts passed. I liked Aitizaz’s suggestion of doing an amendment in the army act only. We already have institutions like IIC in the constitution that we cannot get rid of. I was hoping that PPP will take a stand on it. I don’t think this would have unravel the consensus on having speedy courts. I do want to acknowledge the efforts made by Senator Aitizaz and the courage of Senator Raza Rabbani to fight until the end. The Government did not take their suggestions but unfortunately their point was not understood by our short sighted public. Seeing comments on the media about Raza Rabbani makes me more sad. Our youth cannot distinguish between our heroes and our villains. Here are a few words by Raza Rabbani registering his protest at the time of voting for the 21st amendment allowing military courts on the 7th January.
