Dear Friends, Being associated with Don Bosco for over four years now, I really feel proud that apart from the technical institutes, schools and colleges, there is so much more Don Bosco is doing for the development of the society, which many of us are not even aware off. Bosco Delhi: Bosco Delhi is a registered NGO under the Society Regulation act 1860, (reg.No. s/41069). It has the approval u/s 80G of the income tax Act 1961. Bosco Delhi coordinates and supervises all the development activities of different centers established in various regions in northern India, reaching out to the poor, needy, physically challenged, young at risk, street children, child labourers, backward classes / tribes, marginalized and under privileged youth and women irrespective of caste, creed, ethnicity, or religion in order to facilitate and assist them in their own development. It’s Vision – A society prompting justice, equity and harmony. It’s Mission – Building capacities for the marginalized, vulnerable, socially excluded with their preference to youth, children and women towards transforming the society. Don Bosco Ashalayam, Delhi…… Longing for belonging… Don Bosco set up a shelter home called Ashalayam in a small rented house in Bindapur Uttam Nagar in 1997 to offer a safe and secure place for the vulnerable children from the onslaught of street abuse, exposure and miseries they face every day. Subsequently the work was expanded a new home was built in Palam Gaon in 1999 which can accommodate 150-175 children at any point of time. It is a loving home for them where they get food, clothing, medical care, recreation, sports, education, skill development, and vocational training and Job placement. Bosco plays an enabling role to bring out these children from the world of darkness to the world of brightness by regaining their lost childhood and start entirely a new life. Don Bosco, Jhajjar, Haryana – Supporting child labourers in brick kilns Working with child labourers is a new venture initiated by Bosco at Jhajjar District in Haryana. We are dealing with child labourers employed at many of the brick factories located in and around Jhajjar district. At present we concentrate on Passor village where about 50-60 brick kilns are operative. The labourers working I these factories are mostly from remote villages of U.P, Bihar, Rajasthan, Odisha and Jharkhand. The whole family migrates from their villages to earn a living and sustain themselves. Bosco - Initiates day boarding and evening schools for these children helping them by giving basic education for their sustainability. Individual and Group Sponsorship Program Over 2000 School going children benefit from this program, Bosco provides them with Uniform, Books, Stationeries, School fees, Logistics, health care, tuition classes, residential / hostel facilities. This facility is for the really poor and deserving, some of the college going students and those who are pursuing technical education also get financial help for their respective courses. Drug De-addiction program Bosco initiated its new project called drug de-addication (DDP) and medical support for street children of new delhi on January 2011. This is being executed at Pahadganj at the New Delhi railway Station. We are getting the assistance of Government railway police. A medical doctor is available everyday for 4-5 hours and a full tim nurse renders her service throughout the day. At the dispensary we provide health check up, medicines, dressing, counseling, referral services – all free of cost. DBARK – Don Bosco Animation and Research Kendra It is a center for animation, professional training and research, this wing conducts various training program for youth and youth animators / workers, educators, teachers and school children. DBARK has recently initiated a new movement called PY-YaR(Love) movement. It is basically aimed at building up a healthy relationship between a PY- Privileged youth who are from Affluent families whereas the YaR – Young at Risk who are basically street children, child labourers, children from slums. The idea is to bring about a change of mentality among the rich youth and the poor youth, so that their lives will be guided by the principles of Love, Concern, Equality and Friendship. UNHCR Project Bosco Delhi is one of the implementing partners of UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) for their refugee assistance in Delhi. Initiated in the year 2001 it is one of the major projects reaching out to over twenty thousand refugees of different nationalities through various programs. The objective of the project is to assist the refugees under the mandate UNHCR – Delhi, through various supporting programs such as Vocational training, Language training, Income generation activities, placement assistance etc. to enable them to find a meaningful life and a protected stay in the country until they are able to go back to their homes or re-settled in a third country. Community Development Programs Rural development in India has witnessed several changes over the years in its emphasis, approaches and programs. Various approaches and strategies have been adopted by the government to address different issues in the field of rural development. Self Help Group’s are strong means of people participating in their own development and today they are making vibrations in the rural set up. Bosco Delhi is organizing and executing a number of outreach programs like life skills training for women and youth, awareness programs for people on various social issues and life skill training for village youth and trainees at our technical institutes, IGP program and creating employment generation opportunities. Now over a century in India, Don Bosco has been cratering to the needs of Needy and under privileged. Though we have proved that India is no more a poor country, but in reality we all know that what is the economical status of our country as of today. People from other countries have pulled off their hands and are now supporting other countries whom they say deserves much more that India. We all know, we use to have many donors supporting our programs, but over the past years many of them have moved out and we have no support coming in,but the works that we have began with have to be taken forward and now seems that Don Bosco will have to do all on its own, no matter what. So my dear friends, I on behalf of Don Bosco would like you all to come forward and show in your support by contributing or supporting at-least one program initiated by Don Bosco and help our Salesian fathers carry on with their works. Today we owe a lot to Don Bosco, and even if we hide: but the fact remains that what ever we are today is somewhere because of this great man Don Bosco. This is the actual love and affection that brings me to Don Bosco, and why have i joined hands with Don Bosco and love to be called a bosconian. Now i dont regret even for once to have left the corporate world and associate myself with an NGO. Our Salesian Fathers will never ask anything from us, but now it becomes our individual responsibility to come forward and extend our supporting hands to them. I am doing my bit by supporting a child for education. Dear friends look forward to your kind help and support. Even the smallest donation would be helping someone in need. If interested let me know I will forward you the details God bless you all.
