Dear Friends, I am pleased to announce that the 2013-14 Percussion Commission Fund campaign is officially underway. This year, our goal is to raise $3,000. Please do consider contributing, even if it’s just a small amount. Every donation takes us one step closer to our goal. And as always, your gift is 100% deductible to the extent provided by law. This season, we are pooling our resources with the Israeli Percussion Center under the direction of Tomer Yariv, to co-commission a work from one of the rising stars of classical music, Avner Dorman. The Israeli Percussion Center is the country’s leading educational institution of its kind, focusing solely on percussion instruments and their repertoire. Its director, Tomer Yariv, is also a member of the internationally renowned percussion duo, PercaDu. Despite the excitement surrounding this intercontinental collaboration, it is the music of Avner Dorman that will provide Millikin students with the incomparable, enduring experience of bringing a new piece of music to life. The ensemble has premiered more than 20 new works to date. Avner Dorman has quickly risen to become one of the leading composers of his generation. Dorman’s unique approach to rhythm and timbre has attracted some of the world’s most notable conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Riccardo Chailly, and David Robertson to bring his music to international audiences with the: New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Jerusalem Quartet and many others. Dorman’s works explore a diverse range of genre and stylistic parameters, including works for dance and film. Specific details about the work that he will compose for the Millikin ensemble will be forthcoming. Donating is quick and easy.
