Dear Friends, It is my pleasure to update you of the success of the intervention project that my students and I managed in Baseco Compound, Manila on December 14, 2014. The project aimed at distributing food relief supplies to 137 elders who are food insecure. Through donations pledged by friends and colleagues, we were able to collect P33000. This allowed us to procure 185 relief bags. There were also individuals who donated food which we served during lunch and snacks. Since the elders belong in food insecure households, we have decided to hold two other events in the same day that would cater to their family members. For this, we chose the children, youth and women. Based on our research, these are the sectors that are experiencing food insecurity in their households second to their lolos and lolas. It was the first time that I have ever asked financial help from friends through a social networking site. I didnt think that people would respond. I have been overwhelmed by your gesture of support which came from as far as Australia, Dubai, and China. Thank you to the University of Santo Tomas for allowing me and my team to pursue academic activities such as these, most specially the Research Center on Culture, Education, and Social Issues. Thank you to the Sociology Students who have volunteered their time and service for this. Thank you to the two Enderun Colleges students who have consistently participated in our community program in Baseco. Heres to community engaged research!
