Dear Friends, It’s that time of the year again – the biggest Sikh Camp in Singapore is back. It’s been an 8 year journey that has taken us from a small children’s camp to something that has spread to other programmes(regionally) throughout the year. The camp was started with the intention to share our own samelan days with the kids of today; times when we all got together as a community and built these long lasting friendships that still carry on till today. Our camp facilitators(elder virjis and bhenjis) were sources of inspiration, who even after the camps were over, were around to guide and mentor us through the good and the bad times. I for one came to the picture late, BUT the friends I made and the elder virjis and bhenjis have really guided me through the good and the bad. When I was studying alone overseas, it was the samelan group that got together and helped me get settled in. During the long period after graduation(when I couldn’t find work due to the global financial crisis), it was the elder Virji’s and Bhenjis who met up with me to help me sort out my CV, helped me plan an application strategy and even open up their contacts to help me find work. It was at this time(in my late 20’s, cannot tell you my age ;P ) I realized how important it was to have a community and that it was not only about the kids, but it was also about me too. I can write many touching stories about kids approaching the sewadars thanking them for some advise that has improved their lives. We are nearing the dates of the camp, and it’s time for you to step in and to take on these roles. As important as the Curriculum and the activities of the camp are, the ad hoc interactions outside the classrooms play a huge role in the development of children’s lives, which is why the roles of the facilitators and other sewadars are extremely crucial to the camp. I urge you to join us (this year and after); make connections and make a difference in the lives of others. Be part of this community, let us get to know you and let us all grow together. You Can Make a HUGE Difference, by taking a small step. This year’s Bahadur Bachey Camp is on the : 11th to the 15th of December Held in 2 Gurudwaras – Central Sikh Temple(Ages 4-6, 7-11) and Dharmak Sabha(Teens) Roles are plenty: from coaches, to facilitators, to operational roles For more details you can contact please feel free to reply this message Guru Rakha -- Best Regards, Gurpal Singh Kalra Curriculum IC Bahadur Bachey 2013 Director of Branding and Strategy,Sikh Sewaks Singapore
