Dear Friends, The state of the arts in our country has reached a very crucial period, with budget cuts due to the economy and political influences, the arts are being crowded out and neglected in our schools and businesses and community. The Jazz legacy Foundation Inc. has been founded to help make an impact in improving the current status of the arts in our country, in particular music and the genre of Jazz, America’s only true original art form. The Jazz Legacy Foundation Inc. mission is to transform lives through charitable support by way of educational scholarships, creative arts, leadership development, mentoring workshops, and community partnerships, all with the aspirations of enhancing the appreciation and preservation of Jazz. The initial goal is to support the music departments in our public schools by subsidizing the musical departments with the purchase of needed equipment, create and conduct workshops with aspiring students and musicians in the schools with master musicians, and offer educational scholarships to further musical endeavors and development. To achieve our goals, Jazz Legacy Foundation Inc. will accept donations and raise funds from individuals, businesses, and organizations and entertainment as a charitable cause in order to support our mission. On November 22nd-23rd of 2013, the Jazz Legacy Foundation Inc. In partnership with Keels Jazz Events will kick off with its inaugural fund raising event to support its mission. The fundraising event will be the first annual Jazz Legacy Foundation Inc. Fundraising Gala, and will be held at the Renaissance Hotel Portsmouth, VA. This is a two day event that will feature a tremendous line up of Jazz talent anchored by Grammy award winning Gerald Albright, The electrifying jazz violinist Ken Ford. The Sax Pack’s own, Marcus Anderson. Harmonist extraordinaire, Frédéric Yonnet, and new sax sensation Jeanette Harris. There will also be a silent auction and surprises and a touch of Hollywood and local celebrities. This is going to be a tremendous event! We hope that you will come out, support the mission and programs. You will also meet our first Scholarship recipients. Invitations/tickets will go on sale on July 1. This is a reserved seating event on the first come basis and tickets are very limited. Look for more information soon! In the meantime, go to jazzlegacyfoundation.org for more information. As always if it is a Keels Jazz Event, it will be a great event. We need and thank you in advance for your support. GOD BLESS. Your Friend in Jazz! Alvin E. Keels CEO
