Dear Friends, This is my immense pleasure to apprise you all that, I have written a Book. Yes, you have read correctly, I have written a Book. The Book is about Glazed Curtain Wall system and the draft copy of the PREFACE is attached herewith where from you will get an idea about the publication. Why this Book ? The curtain wall, one of architecture’s most provocative metaphors, is surprisingly difficult to pin down with a precise definition. Generally it was thought of as performing the major functions, which is forming a protective enclosure excluding the elements, but with openings for vision and ventilation as required. Nowadays, curtain wall system is a major investment in both the construction and the long-term success of the building. Curtain wall system is not just a barrier to the external envelope of building, it is crucial to the image and the perception of a building. A good curtain wall design system with excellent performance is essential; otherwise, it will cause large expenditure in future maintenance. From last few decades Glazed Curtain Wall system has become more or less synonymous with building facade across the globe. In India, we also were feeling the same wave getting transmitted from quite a few years. Nowadays not only important /iconic buildings but almost all commercial buildings (Mall, Multiplex, IT Parks, office buildings etc.) are being designed with Curtain wall system. From my long experience of about 20 years, it is realised that though we are somehow managing the execution of these buildings but very few of us including vendors responsible for execution are having holistic knowledge about the subject matter. This is a very alarming situation. One reason is, except few, most of our country’s engineering/technological institutes are yet to include this subject into their course curriculum, resulting limited/nil knowledge amongst our engineers. On the other hand though quite a number of books are available in the market but with due regards to them it is realised that very few of them are having practical approach to guide an engineer for effective implementation of Glazed Curtain Wall system in a very user friendly manner along with a holistic concept about the work package. Being in touch with many Construction Projects Engineers, I realised that the engineers face great difficulties in acquiring knowledge about the subject, its applications and efficient management for want of an up-to-date comprehensive ready reckoner on Glazed Curtain Wall system. This realization gave me an incentive to write/compile a book of this nature. From my practical experience in large EPC contracting company, Government department, Private Client and Project Management organization for a long time, near about 20 years, I have tried to include in my book those problems which our engineers generally face in the practical field after passing from Engineering institutions. On behalf of all those friend Engineers, Architects, professionals, is a humble effort to collate all related knowledge and information acquired through years of experience and development in one place so that our future generation interested in the subject should not waste their efforts and time in running pillar-to-post to acquire the same but quickly able to emulate them in that level and invest their efforts and time in further development for the interest of the industry as well as our country. How this Book is different from others ? As said this is not another book. This is a book for your use. Here efforts have been taken to present a holistic picture about the system along with practical tools-of-the trade as required by current construction industry. There are very few books written with a practical bias. Most of the books available on the subject are written by academicians having very little idea about practical difficulties. But Hope this publication will give comprehensive treatment to the subject practically as well as theoretically. Who can use this Book ? Starting from an Engineer/Architect, studying in any institutional campus to those already practicing and become a professional of construction sector. In that way this book bridges the gap between Academia and Industry, spanning between two strong piers, from Concept to Commissioning. Irrespective of type of organization (whether it is a Client/Consultant/Contractor or others) this book will be helpful for all professional. How you can own this Book ? Though discussions with few Publishers are going on for its wider circulation but for nearest and dearest ones like you, before the publishing house I am planning to print few exclusive copies and distribute. Like other worldly things unfortunately this also attached with a price tag of @ Rs 500/copy including a component which will be donated to a charitable organization working towards rehabilitation of underprivileged children.
