Dear Friends, When we were Felines Inc., we had a room full of the most wonderful cats who unfortunately had FIV. People would come to the shelter, see them in the room and comment that they were the sick cats or had kitty AIDS. After months of research, talking to many Vets and other shelters and sanctuaries, we made the effort to get rid of the stigma and show people how adoptable these cats really are. Slowly they were getting adopted and people were changing their view on FIV. When we vacated our building for construction, I took the risk and put the FIV+ cats in our general population knowing that deep bite is the only way to transmit the virus. Shockingly, we adopted out 5 of our 7 FIV+ cats in the year that we were there. I knew then that having them segregated was doing no favors for these cats and decided at the new shelter, no FIV room would be built. Last month, we tested every cat in the shelter and NOBODY tested positive for FIV that didnt come in with it! What am I getting at?? Here is a cat that was outside for over a year. He was taken care of by a group of women that loved him dearly. They took him to the Vet, found out he had FIV, and were devastated as the Vet told them no shelter would take him or adopt him out. He came to us on December 24 and 1 month and 1 week later, found his forever home. I am so proud that Felines & Canines has the courage to change and grow and be progressive. Its the least we can do for the animals. Booya, TK, and thank you all for your support! Love, Abby
