Dear Friends and customers, We are closed for business. Those are five words we prayed we would not have to say. This decision has been extremely hard for us and may seem sudden, but the reality of our situation is we have struggled since the great recession hit to be profitable. Encouraged by favorable reviews, great customers and multiple awards, we continued to invest our personal funds into Nucci’s with the belief that things would improve. Last winter was especially brutal for us. While revenues have improved, it hasn’t been enough to forecast a favorable outcome in the short term. In essence, this has been a time and money situation. There just isn’t enough revenue to cover the expenses. So even given more time, we wouldn’t have enough money. The reality is this is an expensive area to operate a business like ours in. There is great potential here, but we have not been successful in maximizing it. One of the hardest parts of this decision is accepting that we won’t be here for you anymore and you won’t be here for us. Over the years we have become close to many of you. You know our family and we know you and yours. We have shared many ups and downs, struggles and successes. Thank you for that. We feel truly blessed for that. We also feel blessed for those of you that have kept my wife in your thoughts and prayers. It makes a difference. While we can’t accept that we may have made our last pan of Gelato that indeed may be the case. Ironically, our passion is the highest it has ever been. There was so much more we hoped to accomplish. I guess John Lennon said it best, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans”. Our fondest memories over that last seven years will be the countless people we introduced to Gelato, the countless smiles exchanged, the milestones shared and the friends we made.
