Dear Friends, jsut read and think about it for a while.... This coming Friday, TEPCO plans to start removing bent and twisted spent fuel rods from a pool 100 feet on top of damaged building 4, with manually operated cranes. Meanwhile, there is more news about radiation spreading to the West Coast next year. There have been no new typhoons, but there was a large earthquake. If one should occur while the rods are being taken out, or if any other mishap took place--and in the past year, two crane arms fell into pools, rats shortcircuited the electrical systems a few times, workers made mistakes of various sorts--almost any problem could cause the fuel pool to ignite, starting an unquenchable nuclear fire. Then the whole site would be abandoned. the systems cooling the molten coriums of reactors 1, 2 and 3 would stop, and the resulting explosion could wipe out much of Japan, and even force evacuation of the west Coast. Meanwhile, the news blackout continues, there is no monitoring of food and water here, and the danger goes unheeded... Peace, Carol Wolman
