Dear Friends of ABC, WOW! I hardly know where to start…but want to give you an update on ABC and the storm damage. First, I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU for all the calls, texts, prayers, and words of encouragement that many of you have given. Thank you also to all of you who have come out to the campus to show your concern and support…you brightened our spirits. I want to thank the great number who came out to help us with clean-up on Friday. Your help saved us a lot of money and man-hours and I cannot tell you how much we appreciate you sacrificing your day to come to our need. Thank you to the churches that provided food for us while the cafeteria has been out of commission…no damage but no electricity. God Bless You! Courtney is doing well…she had cuts on her hand and ankle which required stitches but is resting at home now. She is a brave young lady. We are SO GRATEFUL TO GOD that this was the only injury…Truly a MIRACLE OF GOD! If you could see the condition of the rooms, you would agree that it was only the Hand of our Almighty that protected our students. The displaced girls have all been taken care of this weekend…thanks to the graciousness of many friends who have opened their homes to them. We have had several offers from individuals and institutions for more long-term housing and we thank you for that. We are however working diligently to try to house our girls on campus…several do not have cars or had cars that were destroyed in the storm and so it would be much better to keep them here. We have met with our insurance company, contractors, and have been in touch with the City of Arlington. Our current effort is to create a situation where the girls whose rooms were destroyed can be put in some empty rooms on the other side of the dorm until we can get the repairs made. On Monday we will meet with a structural engineer, get some electrical issues taken care of, begin construction of a temporary wall that will separate the girls from the construction, and seek a certificate of occupancy from the city. If we can get a “green light” for all of this, then we will be able to have the girls move back in on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week…please pray that all goes well and fast. Without any reservation or hesitation, I can tell you that the students of ABC are INCREDIBLE…THE BEST OF THE BEST! Through this event, they have lifted one another, helped one another, prayed together, pitched in and worked all day on clean-up, and given Praise to God for His protection. I have not heard one complaint from any student. I am SO VERY PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM…I LOVE YOU STUDENTS! I want to say thanks as well to all of you who have asked about what you can do to help. Your voice of concern is so greatly appreciated. We have pretty much done all of the clean up that we can do. Our greatest need right now is financial and there are two ways that you can help with this. First, a Gofundme account has been set up on FB to help our girls replace the things that they lost in the storm. We would rather not have items donated because the things they will need will be Bibles, textbooks, laptops, and personal items. We would not want to waste good items that would be donated if they would not be needed. These gifts can be given at this link: gofundme/ABCrecovery. Next, if you can give a financial gift to ABC for the additional expenses we are incurring, it would also be greatly appreciated. As most of you know, we already operate on a “shoe-string budget” and these expenses will likely be great. We will have to pay deductibles on our insurance claims (which will be large); we will need to buy things like furniture, mattresses, and probably a thousand other things. Any and all gifts will be received with heartfelt gratitude. Thank you for taking time to read all of this…I know it is lengthy. Thank you again for all your support…you have been AWESOME. Please pray for our students and staff…we have a lot of work ahead of us…we desperately need God’s Mighty Power.
