Dear GDUI Members and Friends, The biggest and best news of this - TopicsExpress

Dear GDUI Members and Friends, The biggest and best news of this week was the arrival of our Fall PawTracks. Jane Sheehan, GDUIs office manager, sent the links, via e-mail, to 373 subscribers on October 4. Nolan and Jane have also shared the MP3 files with Ray Fournier, who does such an excellent job, producing our audiocassette format for each issue, and if you receive PawTracks in your postal mailbox, you, too, can expect a very enjoyable reading experience to be coming your way in just a few days. We want to thank our editor, Nolan Crabb, for such a terrific issue -- especially considering the shortened time frame between when he accepted the job as editor and the publication deadline -- What a great job he and all of the other magazine contributors did! On Sunday, the GDUI board held a very brief board meeting to take care of business that could not wait for the scheduled meeting in November. At that meeting, the board reaffirmed its approval of a virtual jewelry party which Director Vickie Curley has volunteered to host on behalf of GDUI. Vickie and her family will be available to help anyone who has trouble navigating the jewelry company web site with audio descriptions of every product in the catalog as well as in-person ordering assistance. We are very grateful to Vickie for her generosity, and we know that many holiday shoppers will enjoy participating in the online event and benefiting GDUI at the same time. Expect to see more details about the party, scheduled for mid-November, in coming announcements. This is just one of several projects that GDUIs enthusiastic Fund-Raising Committee has planned. To learn more, you can attend the second monthly meeting of the GDUI Fund-Raising Committee, which is scheduled for tomorrow evening (Tuesday, October 7) at 7:00 p.m. THE GDUI Membership Committee will also be meeting this week. Their meeting is scheduled for October 9. To learn more or to volunteer to help, you can contact Betsy Grenevitch, the Chairperson for the GDUI Membership Committee. While our web site is under construction, we can share contact information for all of our committee chairs with you, in case you have an advocacy issue to discuss, or you want to learn more about our policy statement regarding misrepresentation of pets as service animals and how to utilize it in your own state or locality to educate legislators and business owners and chambers of commerce. Perhaps you have been thinking of volunteering to raise funds, or to recruit members, or maybe you want to contribute to PawTracks or another GDUI publication yourself. You may want to discuss a proposed bylaw change with our Constitution and Bylaws Committee, or ask how to get in touch with one of the guide dog training programs. There are so many ways to get involved with GDUI. We hope this contact list is helpful to you. It wont be all that long till votait, Inc. rebuilds our GDUI web site, and once that happens, you will be able to contact our committee chairs, officers, directors, and office manager easily online. At Sundays board meeting, the board approved contributing a doggie-friendly assortment to ACB Radios fund-raising auction, which is scheduled for late November. We in GDUI are very grateful to ACB Radio for their generosity in streaming our weekly announcements to their worldwide audience. Sarah Calhoun, Dixie Sanderson, and others are researching the possible access problems that may be associated with the 712 telephonic exchange Free Conference Call number we utilize for many of our conference-call meetings. If you, personally, have experienced problems associated with your telephone service providers blocking this, or the 605, conference calling numbers, can you please let us know? Just drop a line to Sarah at mailto:[email protected] or call and leave a message for her on the GDUI toll-free number: 866.799.8436. Thank you. Before we provide that contact list for you, I want to congratulate two members of GDUI. First, congratulations to Charlie Crawford, who has a new Seeing Eye Dog named Razon. Charlie, Willow and I can hardly wait to meet your new guide dog soon after you both return from training at the Seeing Eye. Congratulations. And, congratulations to Kathy Nimmer, teacher and author extraordinaire, who was recently honored as Indianas Teacher of the year! If you were fortunate enough to attend the luncheon at the Americas Guide Dogs Conference, you had a chance to hear Kathy describe the teaching philosophy that undoubtedly persuaded the Indiana School System to recognize her enormous contribution to her high school students lives. You know how we often hear from celebrities and others about that one teacher who propelled them to fame and achievement? Im sure that Kathy has been that teacher for many of the students who have been lucky enough to spend time with her and her guide dogs in their English classes over the years. Kathy Nimmer is also the author of Two Plus Four Equals One: Celebrating the Partnership of People with Disabilities and Their Assistance Dogs, which is available at Amazon at this link:amazon/gp/aw/d/1608447162/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1412653617&sr=8-1.
