Dear George Lucas, I have just had the absolute joy of watching - TopicsExpress

Dear George Lucas, I have just had the absolute joy of watching Star Wars DE-Specialised Edition and I now have a few things I need to get off my chest. The first of which is the feeling I have just now. The excitement, the rush, the sheer joy of all of my childhood memories relived as I watched Star Wars the way I fell in love with it! I had actually forgotten how this felt as it has been so long since I have been able to see Star Wars this way (my vhs copies are probably in the same condition as your original masters.... remember them George?) For as long as I can remember I have been (regularly) watching you definitive vision of Star Wars and I now find myself wondering the same as so many millions of fans worldwide.... Why? What was so wrong with your original? I have seen practically every interview you have done on the subject and I am yet to find a single point that I agree with... I was not sitting in the cinema at a young age saying... This would be so much better if Mos Eisley and Bens house looked more impressive.. Yes the CGI was not of todays standard but the where ground breaking for the time and changed the way movies where made forever! Was adding (then subtracting in yet another edition) smoke from weapon fire that big a deal that you really believed it ruined the film? And Im not going to go into the Mos Eisley entrance scene.... I knew it was bit... you didnt need to add a comedy skit to make me see that... give your audience some credit.... They made you a millionaire ... trust us... we are (on the whole) quite clever! Your original Star Wars had such a huge impact on me (and millions of others) and then you went and lessened that impact by changing the feel of the film! Why? Please dont say money..... I only hope and pray that J.J. Abrams has the foresight to listen to people and not be surrounded by yes-men as you so obviously did as seen in the documentary on the Blue-Ray edition of the trilogy. Those people where terrified of you! please dont think this is as negative as it all sounds. I still believe that you made one of my favourite films of all time and for that I will always thank you but if my favourite author (J.D. Salinger) rewrote Catcher in the Rye to include an additional 12 pages I would be ..... Well I would not be happy! Do you see my point? You made a film that will last forever and chose to mess about with it. No-one asked you to. Fans never complained that it felt unfinished or unpolished. It was AMAZING! 2 hours, 1 minute and 50 seconds of sheer perfection. (even when the stormtrooper bangs his head) Sorry to have bothered you. Just felt the need to write... I am off to watch Star Wars De-specialised again (I have never done this with the remastered) Have a STUNNING evening sir. Best Wishes Terry McEwan
