Dear Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, Please remember, that before talking about support for the idea of changing our countrys flag, how about talking about making this country a republic first? Maybe even a new constitutional document that shares the good from both the anglo-saxon construct of law, and the Treaty of Waitangis understanding of mana, respect and dignity for the land and each other? We cant change our flag and somehow expect a brand new burst of nationalism. We havent changed ourselves, we have only changed our clothes, but the clothes are still legally and symbolically owned by the pitbull over the oceans. We dont need a monarchy anymore in this fair land of ours. We share it together, and with peopls who want to come and live with us. But we shouldnt be a member of the British commonwealth anymore. There is no need for it. It is time New Zealand/ Aotearoa set our on its own footing instead of taking orders from the big guns in imperial tradition.
